NINA FOR FLOWERS: An exhibition by Claudia Kogachi and Josephine Jelicich
Laree Payne Gallery is delighted to present NINA FOR FLOWERS, an exhibition of new works by Claudia Kogachi and Josephine Jelicich.
Artists', collaborators and lovers, NINA FOR FLOWERS sees Kogachi and Jelicich exhibit together for the first time with works made both collaboratively and individually. An exhibition of wall based, tufted paintings alongside finely crafted frames and furniture, NINA FOR FLOWERS presents a romanticised living room scenario.
The exhibition title takes reference from Jelicich's mother, Nina, a florist who works from her farm in Warkworth alongside her horses, Olympia and Duchess. Referencing images of Nina’s floral arrangements old and new, Kogachi and Jelicich pay homage to Nina and the many other mothers who love horses, flowers and furniture.
Similarly to previous bodies of work by Kogachi, the imagery doesn't stray far from her reality, albeit slightly more idyllic or paradisal. In keeping with this rose-tinted view, Jelicich inserts coloured panes of glass within her highly crafted picture frames, alongside panels of intricate latticework and keepsake drawers.
